We stayed at the Pestana Sintra with our two kids (5&16). The hotel is modern, and was inaugurated in October 2006. It is clean and the rooms (we got two superior rooms) are large and well furnished. The indoor swimming pool is great, but the temperature was not favourable for us to check the outdoor pool. They have a good Spa with good treatments, but pricey. The breakfast was pretty good, with a selection of hot and cold food, and a good variety of pastries. We only dined at the hotel twice, and on both nights they had a buffet, which in my view was overpriced and uninteresting – you’re better off checking out some of the very unpretentious traditional restaurants in Sintra and neighbouring areas, as we did on the other nights, but with a small daughter the convenience of the hotel was didn’t go out very night. Having travelled a bit in Portugal, I think the Northerners are more friendly and polite, but the staff at the hotel was mostly fine, with the exception of the lady doing physiotherapy treatments in the pool, which clearly shouldn’t be in the service sector.
