Minotel Goldener Brunnen - Gmunden, Austria 

Hidden away in a small alley right in the heart of the beautiful town of Gmunden you will find the Hotel Goldener Brunnen. Having been an Inn from many centuries it offers a very welcoming and comfortable feeling. Even though some areas could do with a bit of updating or redecorating, the overall impression is a very good one and the staff seems to be permantly around to make your stay as nice as possible. Our room was small but very clean and cosy and had a brilliant view over the lake and the mountains. There was a mini-bar (reasonably priced!!) and a TV, telephone and lots of information available. Through the manager it is possible to get internet access as well. Parking is available but access to the garage is a bit of an adventure. The restaurant is very good and we had a brilliant time!

I have stayed a couple times at the Hotel Goldener Brunnen for two weeks at a time on business, and I love it! The hosts were very helpful and friendly. It is in the heart of Gmunden, a beautiful Austrian town on the Traunsee. It is close to an autobahn entrance and exit, small enough to get around easily by car. There are thousands of things to do in the area, (my favorite being the salt mines in Bad Ishel). I think it is about 45min. to Salzburg and the Sound of Music area. One more thing, they have the ceramic factory there where they make an exclusive patterned dishware called Gmunden Keramik. You will see the trademark green swirl incorporated into the city scape, including a tour boat that goes out onto the lake several times a day. There is a flea market in the town square the first Tues. of the month I think. Anyway, back to the hotel, it is first class. The only possible down side is the parking. They have a parking garage with a very narrow entrance, but compared to all the good things about this hotel, that is nothing! I highly recommend it.
