Campanile Vire - Basse Normandie, France     

The rooms are quite nice, the location is good, the rate is very reasonable, and there is plenty of parking. The lady that seemed to be in charge was also very good. However the restaurant is best avoided. The portions are tiny [that's a general Campanile thing I think and not necessarily just a feature of the Vire hotel] and the breakfast has to be paid for and isn't included in the price. Even worse is the young waitress there - I've eaten out in literally hundreds, possible even thousands of places in 23 different countries and she has to be the worst member of staff I've ever seen in any restaurant. Her attitude was appalling, she made us wait 45 minutes from our first course to our second, and even then we only had it because we complained to someone else. She deliberately avoided eye contact and basically didn't want anything to do with us because we were foreign - and yet my wife and I both have French degrees and can express ourselves pretty well in the language having also both lived in the country. We never even got our third course even though we'd paid for it. After another 45 minutes of waiting by which time our 3 year old son was starting to get tired and distressed, we just cut our losses and got up and walked out.

La chambre (équipement, déco...) était celle d'un Campanile standard, mais nous avons reçu un accueil des plus charmants. Quand je suis venue réclamer des serviettes supplémentaires ( car oubliées pour la 3eme personne ) à quelques minutes seulement de la fermeture de la réception, je les ai eues illico, avec des excuses, un grand sourire et une parole gentille. Idem pour le check-in et check-out, conversation très agréable, conseils sur la région...Et au petit-déjeuner, soin vigilant qu'aucun panier du buffet ne soit jamais vide, ce qui n'est pas toujours le cas...
