Our family of three stayed here for a single night in June to see the Portugal-Holland World Cup match. This reservation was made through the Germany web site Hotel Reservation Service in February. By that time rooms were already hard to come by - especially for a single night. But HRS worked out great here, and also for a room in Cologne. If you're going to Germany and can't get the hotel you want, definitely try HRS before settling on your second choice.
The Atrium is very nice hotel in a quiet location on the edge of the city. The setting is a strange mix of park/office park, but it works ok. A major factor for us choosing it was that we could walk from the hotel to the stadium, which is located in a nearby park. (Also part of the park is the Rally Ground and the Nazi Documentation Museum.) With Nuremberg completely overrun by Dutch soccer fans on this day, we can truly vouch for the hotel being quiet. But it is an easy tram or bus ride to the Aldtstadt.
It's a modern hotel that probably caters mostly to business travelers. The staff was very nice, even going so far as to walk us out to the street to show us the location of the tram and bus stop (obviously they spoke English, and I'm sure a number of other languages beyond German). Our room was humongous by even American standards. We had requested a non-smoking room through HRS and that is what we got. With it being a warm summer day, we were glad the hotel had A/C. The room was clean and well kept. The bathroom was clean and modern also. There was a safe, and a mini bar, which wasn't outrageously priced. Since there are no nearby stores, if you get thirsty at night it's the mini bar or the bar downstairs (which did look inviting, albeit crowded after the game). Beds were comfortable, it was a good nights sleep for sure.
There is also a nice indoor pool, complete with shower area, towels, hair dryers, etc. It was a nice diversion for our ten-year-old (just a warning for anyone with smaller children that the entire pool is about 5 foot deep). The breakfast buffet was included in the room, and was very good. It probably had the largest variety of items we saw during our stay in Germany. Baked goods were superb. There were also two large tables full of both European and English newspapers. Staff at breakfast was very friendly, as were the desk staff at checkout.
It was a pleasant stay all around. If you're looking for an "old world" type of experience, then the Atrium probably isn't for you. But it's a nice place - definitely a three-star property. We would stay here again.
