I recently stayed at the Westin for business. It is a short walk to the Convention center (approx 1 block) and the after work scene in the bar was great for networking. My room was recently upgraded and comfortable with a very nice bathroom. Room service, dry cleaning, etc. was prompt and good.
The only complaint I have was with the catering manager/director that oversaw our hospitality suite. He tried to rack up the bill by pushing us for more food and staff than we required and then shut down the party by taking away food, closing bar etc while we were still there. The catering staff we had was great and friendly but it was obvious their boss was a nightmare to deal with in spite of them saying nothing directly about him. ALSO-the hotel does not allow any signage in the lobby as to direct people where to go for your event and then when people inquired at the front desk they would not give them details (assuming it was a closed door event) which was discouraging for us to waste food, bar, etc. if people could not find their way there.
I would encourage anyone doing businss in the Convention Center/downtown area to stay here. If you are having an event such as a reception to be clear about budget and expectations.
The concierge was nice in helping us select dining options and the bellman arranged transportation for us to dinner and airport. All in all-friendly, Southern hospitality in a modern setting.
