Palace Grand Hotel Varese - Varese, Italy 

We only stayed 1 night in Varese, we chose the hotel because of its proximity to the Malpensa airport and also to Lake Como. It is rated a 4 star hotel but by American standards it really is a 3 star. All staff members were very nice, the grounds themselves were beautiful, and the rooms were large as were the bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was very nice and the woman working there was very nice. The rooms however were a little shabby, and the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. I love old hotels and appreciate the d?cor, but these rooms need some TLC. Also, we ordered dinner in our room and were very surprised by the lack of what was NOT on the dinner tray—a bottle of water without a glass, no salt and pepper, no napkin and no butter for the rolls. We ordered fish, which did not come with anything else on the plate! Fortunately we had also ordered a salad, or we would have been starving. The meal was very expensive and there was a 12 euro additional charge for service. I will never order room service from them again. When we checked out of the hotel the tray was still outside our door on the floor. One other thing—the hotel was quite empty and yet they put someone right in the room next to us. So, we had to put up with their noise, why couldn’t they have spread out the guests a little bit? There was not a coffee maker or iron and ironing board in the room, That would have been a very nice touch. Don't let anyone tell you that they don't offer them in Europe, I have found lots of hotels that offer these emenities.
