After reading the reviews on this hotel I cancelled my booking with Stage 47 and booked the Sir and Lady Astor.
We arrived in Dusseldorf at 11am and went to the hotel, which looked lovely and the lady staff member was very helpful, when asked for directions to certain places. We left our luggage and toured the town.
I did notice that we were one of the first persons to arrive that day.
We returned at 3pm for check in, at check in there was a German couple behind us and again I noticed that there was still a lot of people to check in.
We were taken to our room, which was accross the road and into a dark communal close, then up 4 flights of stairs towards our room!!!
Imagine our dissapointment when we were shown a laminate and formica frenzy of a room, 2 single beds, we had ordedred double, a kitchen??? and 2 large boulsters for a sofa but no sofa in the room. Plastic flowers from the 70's and a clock that didnt work!! The words DETENTION CENTRE sprung to mind. I got the feeling that this accomodation had been used and was still being used for storage...
We contatced the manager, who was the most unhelpful person I have ever met. He would not offer us another room.
We ended up staying in the Asahi, not the style of accomodation that we would choose.
All in all I will never use the Lord and Lady Astor again, but Dusseldorf is fantastic.

Just back from three very relaxing nights at the Sir & Lady Hotel (well the Sir bit - the Lady bit is across the road). I had emailed the hotel a couple of times regarding directions, check in time etc and was generally replied to by Kai - who was also on check-in the morning we arrived. He took our bags as we couldn't check in straight away and had them in our room when we arrived back later. He, like the rest of the staff we met, were perfect hosts. There was even a lady who chatted to me in German about the breakfast room design (I think, I don't speak a word of German) at 10 o'clock at night while making me tea and trying to get me to eat lots of chocolates. The rooms are a decent size and the decoration is beautiful. The bathrooms are small but adequate, and everything was spotless. The location is about five minutes from the main train station HBF & about 10-15 to the Old Town, with shops and restuaurants on the way. My only gripe was a recomendation for Schumacher restaurant about 10mins walk away - the food when we eventually ate it was delicious but the service was worse than anything I have ever encountered - and I live in Dublin! So avoid, everywhere else we ate and drank was lovely. Apart from that had a great time in the city, there isn't much to do except relax and the Sir & Lady fits very well into those surroundings.
