Shangri-La Hotel Chengdu - Chengdu, China     

Waauw, Every time that I visit Chengdu I fall back in love with the place, There's just somekind of special atmosphere here that somehow got me addicted to this city. And how it has been growing these last years, unbelievable. Shangri-La is just on of those beautifull places in town that really make this a home away from home. Nice Clean rooms, it is not the cheapest hotel, but you wont find anything better here. The food was really great and there is an Irish Pub called Mooney's aswell, Always good to have that pint away from home. Staff are very friendly, Always wiling to help and If it is your first time in China or in Chengdu, ask the staff for a Taxi-Book, It is a small bilingual booklet, designed for foreigners, all the adresses you might need are in it. Perfect for people who do not master the language and this will really help you find youre way around town. I even found one in Chongqing so they are really becoming widely available, finally.

I stayed at the Shangri-La Chengdu after my travel plans beyond Chengdu were aborted due to the Sichuan Earthquake. The facility and it's management were exceptional. I was especially impressed with the steps taken by management to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests following the quake by doing a complete facility inspection before allowing people to go to their rooms. We were unable to enjoy several of the features of the hotel due to the quake, but it's safe to say that our greatest hardship was that the Guinness beer tap in the Irish pub within the hotel was damaged... so no Guinness for us! The rooms were nice and large and the internet was fast. Beds were comfortable. Overall, a well managed hotel in a great location.
