Hotel Parc Des Marechaux - Auxerre, France 

We asked for a twin room, but got a room with a kingsize made up of two singles pushed together. The decor is oppressively fake grand, but our floor lamp was plugged into a scarily exposed hole in the wall. Noise from other rooms was obtrusive. Breakfast was adequate rather than impressive. A quick warning - don't attempt to drive into the town! The roads are the most potholed and neglected I have ever encountered.

We stayed for one night at the Parc des Marechaux on our way from the wine country back to Paris. Although the hotel is described as being in a park or a wooded area, it is actually situated on a main street about ten minutes from the center of town (which was fine with us). The hotel itself is very baroque -- dark curtains and tapestries -- and our room was small but adequate. Same with the bathroom. The biggest problem was the lighting -- very dim. The desk clerks were gracious and friendly; the breakfast was okay but again nothing particularly notable. The best thing about our stay was that the desk clerk recommended P'tit Beursaude for dinner -- which turned out to be one of our favorite restaurants of our two weeks in France. We have nothing with which to compare this hotel in Auxerre, but we did not think it was anything special.
