Location

Guadix is located in a crossroads, allowing you to discover three provinces of eastern Andalusia; Granada, Jaén and Almería, all less than an hour away.

Stone, lime, clay and light turn Guadix into a city of contrasts. The caves, the historic districts and the Vega are protected by the Arab citadel, the Baroque and Renaissance Cathedral and further away, by Sierra Nevada, snow white during winter and rock bright during summer.

Guadix has the biggest cave complex in Spain, excavated in the clay hills. Next to them: palaces, churches and stately streets showing the grandeur and history of the city.

Do take the time to enjoy local festivities such as Fiestas del Cascamorras and the local cuisine ("gachas con pimientos" or "tocino de cielo")

Whilst studying Spanish in Granada I needed a break from the city. I found this gem on the web & arrived in Guadix by bus ( a first for me ! ) & the locals were all telling me that it was miles away. Panic was beginning to set in as i rang the hotel " its not far but a little complicated - stay where u are we will collect you " Infact it is within walking distance of the old town & the main rd that the bus had dropped me on. That helpful laid back approach continued at check in where there was no interest in seeing a credit card. The 12 rooms are all built into the caves as is the indoor swimming pool & excellent restaurant. Normally i would venture out & indeed on arrival the owner recomended lots of bars & restaurants in the old town, however i wanted to relax & frankly give them my business. The location is amazing, reminded me a lot of being in Australia, the rooms large & spotless with separate sitting TV area & excellently appointed bathrooms. The restaurant staff were excellent & clearly attracted the locals - the chef came out to talk me throug the menu which was fantastic value for money . The next morning there was no question of how i would get to the bus station, it was not for negotiation & once again the chauffeur service went into action. I am sorry that i did not get the owners name but the ride into town with her & her daughter was delightful as they wrestled with my not quiet Andalusian accent - they both speak English. I will be able to thank them in person as i have promised to take my wife back - this time for 2/3 nights so that we can try the other bars etc in the wonderful looking old town. By the way this little piece of magic was 55 Euros for a double room for single use including breakfast ( minimal but fine ) dinner was less than 30 Euros a la carte with bottle of wine & several beers. easy to find if u print off their map from the web site !! Muchas gracias a todo la gente - hasta pronto ! Espero!
