Gnats flying around which I seemed to suck in while sleeping. Got all bit up by fleas while sitting at the desk in the room. Had fellow classmate also get bit while trying to study with me in my room. When I reported, employee said room had fleas and moved me. Fleas followed me to the new room because I started getting bit again on my second night in the room. Every other employee seemed to acknowledge I had a room a pet had previously stayed in and that I had fleas. Kept telling me they would talk to the manager and get back to me but NEVER did. Not a single employee seemed surprised or phased by the news of fleas in the room. Manager finally spoke to me the day I was checking out after a week stay and did nothing to make the situation any better. Second room had other problems as well. Towel bar fell down first time I tried to get a hand towel off. The hand towels and washcloths ended up in the toilet. When I unplugged my laptop from the outlet in the desk that wasn't working, the whole outlet pulled out and started sparking. Reported it but was NEVER fixed. Now, the positive....The hot breakfast in the morning and the social hour M-Th evenings.

I stayed at the Atlanta Hawthorne Suites for a week in May 2008 to attend a work related training class. The hotel is like an apartment complex (much like Residence Inn) with the suites having a separate living/dining/kitchen area and a bedroom/bathroom/dressing area that can be closed off from the rest of the apartment. I generally stay at the Embassy Suites and must say I would probably have preferred that if I had a choice. The suite was a little run down; old appliances, tile, worn carpet, etc., but clean. The beds were not up to the Hilton standard and were very hard to me. The bathroom was clean, but you could tell the tub's surface was old and worn. I was feeling very sorry that I had stayed there until I discovered my building was located just above a rushing stream (I think it was the Chattahoochee River). I loved going out there and sitting in a swing overlooking the river. It was very calming and relaxing after a stressful day of studying. There was also a picnic table and grill at each building. The morning breakfast was a little better than continental. There were eggs every day - either scrambled or a pre-made cheese omelette as well as either sausage or bacon, potatoes or grits, fresh melon; plus bagels, toast, muffins, etc. The afternoon social hour was advertised as 25 cent beer and wine, but they actually charged $1.00 for each. Each night they had a small salad bar (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, three-bean salad, thawed frozen broccoli and several types of dressing. One evening they served chicken alfredo pasta which was pretty good. Another evening they served chili; the next night beef and turkey burgers, baked beans and chips; the last night was spinach/artichoke dip and tortilla chips. All in all, the stay was OK. I still prefer the Hilton brand, but for a longer stay, there was more room and I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor spaces.
