Hotel Wolne Miasto - Gdansk, Poland 0 star hotel

Address: Swiętego Ducha 2, Gdansk, 80-834
Hotel Wolne Miasto details:  In the heart of the Old Town of Gdansk, the Hotel Wolne Miasto pays homage to the city’s rich history with its traditional wooden interiors and décor.

A sense of history infuses the hotel. Rooms are decorated with sepia tinted photographs illustrating the past hundred years of Gdansk’s thousand-year history. The hotel’s reception welcomes guests with replica Renaissance furniture. The whole of the hotel’s interior reflects the rich history and architecture of Gdansk’s Old Town. The hotel is close to The National Wybrzeże Theatre and the stunning architecture of Zbrojownia – which was once the town’s arsenal.

However the hotel’s sense of history does not compromise the level of modern comfort it provides.

The hotel is in a quiet street close to the city centre of Gdansk, in the heart of the city’s Old Town. The hotel’s location provides easy access to the city, the Old Town and the sea.

A conference room with a capacity of 70 is available, featuring all the necessary equipment.

The hotel’s own Zeppelin Restaurant offers a culinary journey that will take diners around the world, offering breakfasts, salads, tapas, soups and delicious pasta and rice dishes. Specialities from around the world are available from local meals of duck or zander fish to Argentinean beef and shrimps and lobster.

Location

The hotel is in the heart of Gdansk’s Old Town. All of the city’s sights and attractions are within walking distance, as are the delights of the Old Town.

The hotel is close to The National Wybrzeże Theatre and the stunning architecture of Zbrojownia is only a short walk away. Gdansk’s famous crane over the Motlawa River is less than a kilometre from the hotel. The crane once played a dual role as both a port crane and as Gdansk’s city gate. It has been in its present form since 1442-1444. The machinery of the crane is driven by a huge wooden wheel inside it, which was powered by men walking on it, like a giant hamster wheel. The crane was not only used to unload and reload cargo, it was also used to put up ships’ masts.

Rooms

While the hotel’s interiors and décor may reflect the history and glories of Gdansk’s Old Town, the amenities and features of the room are resolutely from the 21st century. The hotel has 13 single rooms, 21 double rooms and 9 deluxe standard rooms.

We stayed in the hotel for seven nights in July 2008. The location is excellent for visiting the area being in easy walking distance of the Main Town, rail and bus stations and the waterfront ferries. The hotel is clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Whilst there is some street noise from late night revellers, this is only to be expected in such a central location. Breakfasts are good but do not expect a full English fry-up. This is Poland after all. We had one dinner in the restaurant. Again the food was excellent though the restaurant lacked the atmosphere of some of the main tourist spots. Overall, we would recommend this hotel.

Right in the heart of the Old Town, this hotel is a gem. Well appointed room, with a comfy bed and a circular bath in the en-suite,( to die for) this is superb accomodation for the price - booked direct on-line. The staff were excellent - the chap on duty booked us a taxi to the airport even though we had checked out and had only come back to retrieve our luggage. The food in the hotel is v good. Our breakfast ( included in the price) was more than adequate and the evening meal , which we had not booked in advance , was a revelation. Enjoyed great food at a fair price. However, the bottle of wine we ordered ( vin ordinaire) was over priced at 45 zlt. Downside is the sound of the garbage collectors at 5am - but I guess I was disturbed because I sleep with the windows open. Would I return ? Yes.
