Hotel zur goldenen Sonne - Quedlinburg, Germany 

A good value hotel & we probably had the same room overlooking the market. The fountain is now working & the view is great. Two words of warning. Frst, get to breakfast early -it's really good but "re-stocking" can be slow. Secondly, the nearby church clock strikes every quarter of an hour (a hazard unless you are a heavy sleeper!) All in all, however, it's a great place to stay with a large car park & close to the town centre.

A visit to the Golden Sun was everything I could have hoped for, and more! When we stepped into the courtyard I could easily imagine my Grandfather, as a young man, bringing a wagon load of farm goods right up to the loading area. The rooms were steeped in antiquity and yet had any modern convenience one could need. The view from our room overlooked the market place and, unfortuately, the fountain was under repair during our stay. But it wasn't hard to imagine how magnificent the sounds and sights may have been! The marketplace bustled with activity in the daytime and each shop was a delight to investigate. We visited in mid-October but flowers were still blooming in window boxes all over the building fronts. The staff were helpful, friendly, and worked hard to understand the American way of speaking English! Breakfast was a beautiful sight and the hotel resturant was serene. Someday soon we plan to return to the Golden Sun. Our stay there was one of the highlights of our European trip.
