Location

The hotel is situated on Rue Saint-Denis, in the heart of Montreal. During the last 100 years, this street has evolved from meager beginnings to become one of the most vibrant and bustling streets in Montreal. Rue Saint-Denis was once little more than a dirt road, in the middle of what would later become the city’s Latin Quarter. This name originates from the Quartier Latin in Paris, France, where one could study Latin at the Université de la Sorbonne.

In 1864, the tramway was added to La Rue St-Denis, making the street a main thoroughfare linking the southern part of the city with the northern areas. Over the decades, many institutions would make Rue St-Denis their chosen home: the Saint-Jacques Cathedral, the Saint-Jacques school, the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, the National Library, the Saint-Denis Theatre, the National Film Board, the Cinématheque Québécoise and the Latin Quarter Cinema as well as many shops.
