Please read before booking to stay here, I found the area in which the hotel is base did leave a lot to be desired, I did not see any hookers, but I did see a lot of drug addicts, and that was during the day, I checked in to the hotel, and they put me in a room that looked like it had not been cleared, Ever, when I asked to be moved they did move me to another room, but this one was even worse, I can not say that much about the room, other that door had looked like it had been kicked it, as there was a big hole in the wall where the door handle had been imbedded in to the wall, and there were 4 more holes in the walls of different sizes, I can not tell you what I think was the cause of these holes, but the room had a very strong smell of detergent, the bathroom was dirty, the bed sheets were unclear, and the moment I sat on the bed I started to itch, the cupboard in the kitchen was hanging off, I lasted long enough in the room to take pictures and then leave, I went down to the front desk, and asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he was not there, so I asked for another room, and was told that there was no more rooms, I then asked for a refund, and they told me to speak to the company I booked with, which was ebookers, I have travelled all over the world and this hotel, was the worst ever.

I discovered this site only after finding the Downtowner on a web search and contacting them directly. After reading Trip/Advisor's negative reviews I should have canceled my two-night reservation and forfeited my 5% reservation fee. Instead I called the manager who assured me the rooms were clean and the neighborhood safe. Because I was still doubtful when I arrived at the hotel, the night clerk said I could pay for just one night and confirm in the morning whether or not I would stay the second, reserved night. To my delight, the room was refurbished, very clean and quiet. Even though the included "breakfast" was only instant coffee and cheap white bread in a dirty area with shabby carpet, I decided to stay the second night. But when I informed the manager I was staying, he told me to leave. He had canceled my second night and sold the room! He also charged my card for an additional 5% which I didn't discover until my statement came. From now on, I'm checking TripAdvisor before I make any calls.
