Duxton Hotel - Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 

We stayed at the Duxton for three nights in early July before heading off to central Vietnam. We found it very comfortable with friendly staff and big rooms. It is centrally located with views of the river and our three rooms were clean and well kept. We checked in at 10pm after a long flight and half an hour later the dining room staff were happy to serve us a meal despite the late hour as we were too tired to venture out. The Duxton's location is perfect if you want to to explore Saigon on foot and the front desk were very helpful giving us maps, tips about crossing the road, street food etc. The buffet breakfasts were very good with a wide range of american/european foods as well as asian breakfast and , of course, vietnamese noodle soup. Our vegetarian twenty-something children were more than happy. Visiting at the height of summer it was often a relief to get back to the Duxton's air-conditioning and we were always given a smiling welcome. Service throughout the hotel was great including at the hotel spa where my daughter had a wonderful massage. We would definitely use the Duxton as a base in Saigon for our next trip to Vietnam.

We (2 adults and 3 kids) stayed in connecting rooms at the Duxton for 4 nights from 9 July 2008. The rooms were big enough and were very clean. All of the staff were friendly. The breakfast was great. Plenty to choose from and all good quality. We did not spend too much time in the rooms so it served our purpose as a good central base for a short visit. The hotel is walking distance from most of the city sights and the market. Or a taxi ride to most of the sights is cheap. 20,000 Dong to Ben Thanh market. The gym and the pool were adequate but not spectacular. My biggest issue with the hotel is the charge for internet access which is quite high. Something like $US2 for 5 minutes in the business centre. Other hotels provide internet access for free so this was disappointing. Also we found that the tour company running from the foyer was much more expensive than tours we organised ourselves. This is easy to do and I would recommend doing that.
