My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Palomar for 5 nights over the 4th of July weekend. We booked the hotel on Hotwire for $99/night. This was an excellent deal, given that the rack rate is over $300.
The hotel is in a great location, just a couple blocks from Dupont Circle, where there is a metro stop. It is also about a one-mile walk from the White House, so we walked most days. Having a close metro stop was very convenient though for those times we didn't feel like walking.
The hotel has a very modern decor. Our room was on the 9th floor and wasn't huge, but sufficient. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and the room had a mini-bar (which we didn't use) and a wide screen TV. There were also bathrobes in the closet, which were nice to have in the morning. The bathroom had high quality products. My only complaint with the room was that the water pressure in the shower wasn't great; but I was able to live with that.
The hotel has a reception each evening at 5pm, with wine, beer, soda, iced tea, and water. There were also some snacks. It was a good excuse to return to the hotel each day for a break before dinner. We did not have any meals at the hotel, but we did order an appetizer from the bar, which was very good.
All the staff that we came into contact with were wonderful -- very friendly and helpful.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay here. I don't know that it would have been worth over $300, but for the price we paid it was very much worth it. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff. We arrived early (10 am on Sat) and found free parking on the next block. The parking would have been only 2 hours normally- but it was the weekend so we could park and leave the car there. We hadn't planned on looking too hard for a spot- but we got lucky and saved the $40 that the hotel charges for valet. The Hotel allowed us to check in early which was so unexpected and a wonderful perk, giving us the chance to settle in before heading off sightseeing. I requested a high floor away from the elevator and I received my wish. The Deluxe King rooms are so spacious- the decor is fresh and contemporary- bed is plush- the robes are fun (cheetah and leopard print). The Metro is very close by- although we did lose our bearings a little in DuPont circle; there are 2 different metro entrances and only 1 with an elevator- which we needed with the stroller.
The Pool is small- but pleasant; our 9 month old son really enjoyed it. We missed the happy hour but did get free coffee and tea in the morning. Didn't try the restaurant- bit there are plenty within walking distance. We requested a crib and one was sent up within 10 minutes. Check out time is noon which is quite generous- we got in some additional sightseeing on Sunday morning plus bruch before heading out. Overall- a great stay and we hope to come back again.
