We arrived on Thursday night at around midnight and when we checked in we were told we had a first floor room. They took our name and said they would put in a request for a room change the next day. The first floor room was a little small as everyone has stated but it was clean and the bed was fine but the windows were up near the top of the ceiling and it was a tall ceiling. The next day, they immediately switched us to a third floor room with no problem at all. The third floor room was larger and the windows were from floor to ceiling. I am very picky when it comes to hotel rooms and usually can find something to be grossed out about but everything was fine. I didn't even have a problem with the bathroom. The concierge recommended both of the restaurants where we ate dinner and they were both really good.. Read review

We were close to the mall and great restaurants/bars and felt safe at all hours. The hotel has wonderful public areas and the rooms and beds were quite comfortable. We stayed at one of the much-maligned first floor rooms and we were very satisfied. The king bed was great and the bathroom was spacious. The room was decent sized, but got a little cramped with the large rollaway bed.. Read review

If you have mobility problems, some of the rooms can be far from the elevators as this is a large hotel. Poste has excellent food, but it is pricy.. Read review

All the staff were friendly and professional, and went out of their way to accomodate unusual requests - which, in our case, included extra garbage bags for the baby's diapers and a city map at 3am (we were jet lagged). Our room was in good shape, and very nicely decorated. Room service was also quick and the food was tasty.. Read review

My son and I stayed here for four nights. This is a great place. It's centrally located, clean, and the staff were all very helpful. We will stay here again on our next trip to DC. The room had everything we needed and more. Even the samples in the bathroom with first class.

typical kimpton hotel in great location, innaugurated by President lincoln, so you could say it is old. odd shaped room, but medium to smallish, nice 42 inch plasma, but no HBO, leopard robes and impressive minibar/mini mall.
In the middle of everything touristy.
Our queen room was small but reminiscent of a European hotel carved out of a historical building. Everything very quiet with the exception of an exit door directly opposite us that had no other mode than "slam. We did request a room on the 2nd floor (per earlier reviews that mentioned that the 1st floor was actually the basement) and we looked out onto the lovely patio of the Poste restaurant. Very nice wine was served, Sam Adams beer, variety of gatorade style drinks, water, etc. We love the American Art Museum/Portrait Gallery and the area around the hotel--China Town, Verizon Center, great restaurants, etc.
