The Hotel George - Kimpton details:
Originally built in 1928 the hotel has been dramatically re-sculpted to incorporate large expanses of glass stainless steel and fossilized coral stone - all within a traditional facade. Bold design is a theme that permeates throughout the hotel. All guest rooms are steeped in a cool beige and cream color scheme that provides a residential feel to the interior. Our affiliate restaurant Bistro Bis incorporates the same cunning craft for style. Located adjacent to the lobby. Bis offers creative classic French bistro fare in a profound contemporary setting.
The rooms were a good size and very clean. The beds extremely comfortable (reminded me of the "heavenly" beds at the W) and the shower had great water pressure. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and the billiard room & gym/steam room seemed to be open 24/7.. Read review

Check in was quick and efficient - the bell hop took our luggage and met us at our room. He explained everything - how to dim the lights to how the TV worked - very good. The room was large, bright and clean - the beds were huge and comfortable. The bathroom was large and luxurious - the shower was huge. The location was close to Union Station - which has got a good shopping and dining area. Within walking distance to Congress and the city - but well worth taking the Red Tour Bus from Union Station.. I like the museums and the restaurants, and the general quiet atmosphere on most weekend days. I have been looking for a good hotel near the station for some time now as I am a single woman carrying my own bags. The room was very comfortable, particularly the bed, and the bathroom was large, spotless, and perfect for a long soak in the tub or a quick shower (it had both. If you plan to be up and out early, any room would do. AWAY from the parking lot in the back where an armada of the world's noisiest garbage trucks show up at 8AM. If you are looking for a friendly place, not overwhelming, very classy and modern and clean, then I would recommend this hotel.. Read review

Stayed June 2009 with 2 kids. Very close to Union Station where there is cheap food to fuel up with for a day of sightseeing. Staff at the hotel were really great. Happy hour at 5 each day. Nice to enjoy a glass of wine or sangria. Loved the location, loved the hotel.
The Hotel George was a nice clean hotel with large rooms. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was conveniently located. I was there with my husband and 2 kids(ages 8 and 11). It was very convenient to have Union Station a block away. They have an amazing food court which was great for the kids. There were also some great pub type restaurants around the corner. Some people in other reviews I read mentioned about the homeless people. I have to say we saw very few and the few we did see did not bother us at all. My biggest problem with the hotel was the construction next door. I feel when you are renting a hotel room you should have the right to a peaceful nights sleep. If the hotel knows of any reason why that would not be possible then I feel they have an obligation to tell you in advance. We arrived late on a Friday night(almost midnight) and were shocked and surprised that at 6AM(no exaageration) Saturday morning there was banging on the building being built right outside our hotel room. My kids were woken up with only 6 hours of sleep and needless to say our Saturday was ruined before it even started. When I went downstairs to complain they could not move our room because they were sold out. They are supposed to be sending us a complementary night but that was of little concellation for all the noise we had to put up with. The Hotel was well aware of the problem because they assured me that Sunday would not be a problem(and it wasn't) but the banging started 6AM sharp again on Monday morning. I would not stay again unless promised to have a room far awary from the noise.

My husband & I stayed during this years Cherry Blossom Festival & we're glad we did. They let us check in early.held our bags when we checked out so we could get in a few more site.
The room was good size, the bed was amazing & it was The Quietest room in any hotel we have ever stayed in.The staff was Super Friendly & Accomodating. The Biz resturant on site is excellent but pricey. Union Station is 2 blocks away with tons of places to eat, a few resturants near by. Buy a smart card to get around. The Metro is clean, safe & cheap. It will take you everywhere in a matter of minuets. This was our first time in a Kimpton Hotel & I will absolutely stay again. My husband even raved about this place & that's saying something.

Just a long block from Union Station; minutes on foot from the Capitol; we walked to everything -- including Washington Monument, Smithsonian. Room was clean, luxurious leopard-print terry robes. They recycle and have recycling bin in the room. We loved this little place!!!
The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, the room is nice and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is located a block form Union Station, which happens to be the hub bub of everything. Its a mall / metro/amtrak/ tours buses and great place to get a morning cup of coffee with a muffin. Instead of doing hop on hop off bus tours you can ride the metro which is pretty easy to understand and it is fairly safe and cheaper than a taxi and it will drop you off near most sights.
