The best thing is the location. They give you 24/7 shuttle service to the Huntington Metro station, which is really the best way to get around. Based on this stay and one at another Hampton on the same trip, I think Hampton Inns have slipped considerably from when I last stayed at them. The breakfast is good, but not great because they give you two hot options, rather than the full, choice of waffle batter, etc. We had a bit of a cleanliness issue at first. We were able to resolve it, but still it should not have happened, certainly not for a room that was $260 a night. Everything you might need as far as retail stores and common restaurants is a short drive. I would stay here agin, but not unless I could negotiate a way better rate since I now know what to expect from this hotel.

We stayed here for 5 nights, and will never be back. The king bed "suite" is nothing more than a regular room with a TINY kitchen in the entryway. The room itelf is very small as well. I-395 is on one side of the hotel, and Van Dorn street on the other which makes for a LOT of ambient noise. The heat/air-conditioning is controlled at the building level, so you can turn on the fan contraption in your room, but all you'll get is hot air if you go there in April because they haven't turned off the building heat yet! So at night we had to open the windows to cool down the room after it baked in the sun all day, and then the road noise got REALLY loud and annoying! The fact that an apparently busy fire station is nearby didn't help one bit. The hotel was in general not clean; crumbs and dirt strewn about the hallways; the bed sank towards the middle which is always uncomfortable; our shower handle was broken so we had to wait while a maintenance guy fixed it, ruining our departure time for the day; the duvet cover on the bedspread was torn and ripped in spots; the doors close VERY loudly; electrical outlets were loose in the wall and sometimes wouldn't work; and that's just a sampling of what made our stay extremely annoying. Then there were the room rate problems. At check-out our rate was higher than they said it would be at check-in and refused to explain the difference! I "negotiated" it down to $20 more than what was originally agreed upon, and will be contesting the charge with my credit card company. It was a very disappointing stay, and they will never get my business again.
We had never stayed in a Hawthorn before and we found this to be the best hotel ever. Not only did we get breakfast, but dinner as well. The courtesy van took us where we wanted to go. The staff was professional and very nice. Our room was much like an apartment. We had more space than we needed. What a value. We're planning to find other Hawthorn Suites on ournext vacation.
