Travelodge LAX / El Segundo - El Segundo, USA     

I’m a wheelchair (paraplegic T10) user and we have used Travelodges’ disabled rooms throughout England & Ireland and so chose this lodge based on those good experiences. We had just flown into Los Angeles from Dublin, Ireland and required a local stay over before continuing with our holiday itinerary. The allocated room for wheelchair access and facilities is not suitable if your handicap is severe. The 2 queen beds in it were 1 foot higher than my standard wheelchair seat height. I needed assistance from my wife for a lift up onto the bed. The bathroom also did not have any grab rails by the toilet or sink unit. This rendered the toilet unusable, so I drove off to a local hotel for nature’s needs. On leaning on the sink, it actually gave way from the wall and was not secure. The bath is far too low as are most baths I find in the USA are for transferring into from a wheelchair. With no grab rails the bath was impossible. The room is large enough though to manoeuvre about in. I asked the receptionist if there was an alternate room I could try and use but all were booked out, and that this was the designated handicap access room. The only other assistance offered was in the form of a refund and we could check out. However, as it was only a one night stay, we managed ok. I would not recommend this Travelodge at El Segundo for a wheelchair user. Other than that, the room was clean, recently painted and quiet overnight. The TV worked and after cleaning out the coffee maker, enjoyed the brew but did not try the locally attached caf? for breakfast as it was not included in the $82 room rate. After having a look into it, we were glad not to either. It did not seem very clean. You get what you pay for at this rate, but don’t stay too long.
