We stayed at this hotel for two days over the 4th of July holiday. Very charming hotel. We had an interior room (we were told it had no window) which was very small. Our room did have a window though...it opened into the hallway. Very bright room because of skylights in the hall. Shared bathrooms were always available and clean. Fresh towels always ready too. A great place to stay.
I stayed at the San Remo for three nights. I doubt you could find better value in such a great location for Fisherman's Wharf, the Maritime State Park and ferries to Alcatraz. One block from one cable car turnaround, four blocks from another. I got one of their special deals on their website, stay two nights and get the third for $50, making the stay just over $200.
The room, 62, was a twin room with an external alley facing window and an internal window. It was clean and comfortable. I think Saturday morning must be garbage day because there was a bit of a racket just before 8am but then I needed to get up anyway!
Mixed experiences on service. I got back late on July 4th and was dying for ice and the girl on front desk was super helpful. On the other hand on July 3rd I asked someone else on the desk where San Francisco's 4th of July fireworks took place and he didn't know and had no idea how I could find out. As is it turned out that there were fireworks going off at Fisherman's Wharf, two blocks away, I think that was a bit poor. In addition all of my towels magically disappeared from my room on the second day, so I got back to find no towels and had to go towel hunting.
Avoid checking out at 11am at all costs. That's check out time but they were also allowing people to check in at the same time. It was... hectic.
Parking is only a block away at two different car parks. I checked my bill and found I had been charged room tax on car parking. Perhaps that is usual, and knowing the queue at the desk I chose not to go back and fuss over $8 but if that's not usual that needs to be fixed on their computer system.
That said, I can't fault the rooms, the wi-fi access or the location, all entirely acceptable for the price.
I didn't have to wait longer than a couple of minutes for a shower and there are paper mats available so you can put a fresh sheet down for your use. I always wear flip flops in shared showers like that but they looked clean enough. Shampoo, conditioner and soap all provided in the cubicle.
I would definitely stay here again, no problem at all.
The San Remo is a small and friendly hotel.
The room we stayed in was a bit small, but its was clean.
The shared bathrooms are clean and there is plenty of them.
The locations is close to Fishermans Wharf and the tram will take you downtown for shopping etc.
Well we didn't know what to expect from the hotel. The website was good and told you enough but when we got there it was even better. It was so central, only a few blocks from fishermans wharf and you only had to walk a few blocks to get some good food and have some fun. The rooms were just what we needed, as we are on a year long trip and it was our first stop, so we got a lovely room on the second floor with two twin beds. The rooms are pretty basic but perfect for us. I would tell everyone I know it's worth staying there if they are looking for budget accommodation with a bit of history and class. The staff were very helpful also. I really can't fault the place. Will be staying there again when I go back.
