A wonderful location. The cable car just outside the door, and the BART station a few feet further. We flew into Oakland and took the BART to the Powell St station, and we were there. People were nice, and helpful. If you like to shop, it's right there, and a big variety on places to eat. All within walking distance. I couldn't have chosen a better location if I lived there. Will be back there no hesitations!

This place was awesome! It is right in the Square where the cable cars turn around! Your don't need a car for any reason. You can take the BART system right from the airport to Powell St. Station and your there! The room was cozy, and clean. The weather was fantastic. The service at the happy hour and in the lobby, was great. People were friendly and helpful. You can arrange tours and transportation at the front desk! I'll definitely be back!

Perfect medium-class SF hotel

I was in SF for a convention and wanted to stay a few extra days on my own expense - so I shifted from the expensive Hotel480 to Powell, and what an improvement in how I was treated! The staff is certainly the most helpful I have ever experienced. The hotel is medium/budget priced, so don't expect fancy amenities like minibar or breakfast restaurant (but who cares, Lori's Diner and a hundred other restaurants are in walking distance!), but the location is absolutely perfect, the treatment is kind and professional, and the rooms are tidy and quite charming. Also free wireless internet - something the snobby Hotel480 charged an additional $10/day for! Your only alternatives for a decent hotel with excellent location are the Hilton, Westin, and other $250+ hotels - so the decision is up to your wallet!

I booked this hotel for a shopping trip to SF with my 17 year old daughter. We wanted something convenient to Union Square and the Westfield Mall. For this purpose, there isn't a better location - it's directly across from the Gap stores at the cable car turnaround and the Mall is right across Market Street. The place shows its age but the price was right ($119/nite and $31 for valet parking), the service was friendly, the beds were comfortable (we had a funny little corner room with tall twin beds) and it was clean enough, although there was hair (not ours) on the floor in the bath - always a yuck for me. This area can be kind of noisy - it's the center of action as far as Market Street shopping and the cue for the cable cars is directly in front of the hotel entrance, so there was some noise late at night and early in the am, but overall it was an ideal place to stay for shopping and enjoying the bustle of SF. I would stay again.
