Renaissance Stanford Court - San Francisco, USA 4 star hotel

Address: 905 California Street, San Francisco, 94108
Renaissance Stanford Court details:  Location. Residing in the Nob Hill area, the Renaissance Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., is located two blocks from the Grace Cathedral and four blocks from Union Square. The Transamerica Pyramid and Chinatown are both one half mile of the hotel. Coit Tower is one mile away. The hotel provides complimentary weekday transportation to and from the Financial District one half mile away.
Hotel Features. The hotel's 19th century lobby displays a Victorian stained glass dome ceiling, Beaux Arts fountain and murals representing civic history. The marbled lobby winds into Fournou's Ovens, the on site Mediterranean restaurant boasting an exhibition kitchen and a cellar stocked with 5,000 wines from around the world. The neighboring lobby lounge mixes afternoon tea times, cocktails and original artwork. The lobby also houses a business center with high speed wired and wireless Internet access. Recreational amenities include a fitness center with cardiovascular equipment.

Guestrooms. The Renaissance Stanford Court Hotel accents its guestrooms with reproduction antique furniture and large windows with bay views. Pillowtop mattresses and feather goose down pillows compose premium bedding arrangements in each room. All rooms are equipped with high speed wired and wireless Internet access and cable television with premium channels. Wake up service includes complimentary coffee and tea.

Expert Tip. Adjacent to the hotel is a Cable Car stop, providing transportation to and from attractions throughout San Francisco, including my favorite, the Chinatown Gate entryway to Chinatown's eclectic shops, restaurants and art galleries, just four blocks away.

We stayed here last Tuesday, the last night our a weeklong trip to Northern CA. I thought the hotel looked very nice and there was a table of champagne in the lobby when we walked in. Nice touch. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. Two things that stood out. The a/c did not work. We like our rooms cold but the room didn't get hot so it didn't turn out to be a big deal. The biggest downer was they put us in room 161 or 261 (I forget) which is the first room right next to the stairwell and two doors from the health club door. Well, I guess there are renovations going on and some workers started clammering right below us around 5am and they kept using the stairwell to come to our floor and I swear they slammed their feet on the stairs as loudly as they could and the stairwell door kept opening and closing. After putting up with this for a half hour I called the front desk and management said they'd look into it. Nothing. I called again a half hour later a little more impatient and the manager then admitted what was going on and offered to take care of us. He apologized and gave me 5000 Marriott points and had breakfast sent to our room. We really only lost 2-3 hours of sleep so I appreciated what he did. All in all I'd recommend the hotel as renovations do happen and management stepped to the plate. Just make sure you don't get the room we had because even people going to work out in the morning you can hear opening and shutting the door. Also, it is right on two cable car lines so you can get a car quick and easy.

Nice remodeled rooms, but very small and confined. No coffee pot to make tea/coffee; therefore, you have to order hot water from room service. I ordered hot water, after 3 phone calls and a visit to the front desk, it was finally delivered (35 min). The front desk lacks experience & creditability. I was surprised to find this "upscale" hotel has no hot tub or swimming pool. I travel often and was disappointed to find that the owners couldn't find the space for at least a hot tub. The superior Nob Hill address makes this a great location...close to Union Square and China Town. Rooms and common areas are very clean. Rooms are well insulated and quiet. Parking attendents are very helpful and relaxed, which; in turn, helps guests relax.
