My husband and I went to hawaii on may 26. We went to The Big Island, Maui and Kauai. Looking back Kauai was by far my favorite,Islander on the Beach was perfect. We had a ocean front room, which was perfect In fact we had a monk seal visit just yards from our lanai. OUR NEXT TRIP WILL NOT DOUBT BE TO THE ISLANDER ON THE BEACH......The front desk staff is excellent....If you need anything, info or advice call and ask for Ann. She was a God send to us while we were trying to make reversations from Ms.
GO TO THE ISLANDER STAY OCEANFRONT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

We just returned from a week in Kauai. I choose the Islander because it was within the Pleasant Holidays network and was priced just at our limit. I would not return to the hotel for a number of reasons. They have a 3pm check in and our room wasn’t ready until 4pm. This wouldn’t have been such a big deal but we arrived early at 12:30 pm hoping to unpack and relax.
Our room had an ocean view and was on the second floor. Pack light as there are no elevators. This I knew before hand but was hoping for a bell person would maybe help. There are none. It seems most of the rooms have tiles floors throughout as did ours. We found this to be unpleasant. The floor is always damp even with the AC on. Getting out of bed at night and walking on a damp floor is not enjoyable. There is only one bedside table with a lamp. It had a florescent bulb as did the kitchenette light. I don’t like florescent bulbs as they not warm feeling. The TV and AC worked fine. We liked the kitchenette. There was a long wait for hot water in the bathroom sink and shower. My wife had some insect bites she claims were from bedbugs. I had none so we will consider this a wash. We brought our own aerosol air freshener. It was missing from the room after day one. Housekeeping could not locate it. The front desk was helpful in trying to accommodate us.
We didn’t use the hotel beach or pool so I can’t comment. Most of beaches we drove to were much better than the hotels. I think you can find better “value” hotels on Kauai than the Islander.
