Booked thru Priceline for $100.00 Sun-Mon in Sep/Oct. I'm usually a little leery of Marriott's in general, but all I can say about the Marriott Gaslamp is wow! Outstanding property, doesn't even look like a typical Marriott... think something closer to an upscale W Hotel. Extra comfy bed and pillow, basically identical to the Westin Heavenly Bed, a large L-shaped desk for business, generous sitting area, elegantly appointed bathroom with granite counter, nicely tiled floor, marble-like paneling, comfy towels, generous amenities. Big TV, maybe a 28" flat tube? Lots of cherry wood tones thruout the room and property. Walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops in the Gaslamp Quarter. I am staying here from now on when I visit San Diego, especially at the rate I got. Some minor downers... almost nonexistant dessert menu (guess I can overlook that for the price), $28 valet parking (easy to remedy.. self-park across the street for $8 overnight and walk 100 ft across the street to the Marriott lobby). If more Marriotts start to look like this one, I'm switching chains!

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Marriott Gaslamp. We were made to feel welcome and appreciated by all staff members we encountered during our stay. Checked in on a Sunday and out on a Friday. Had a water view room on the 17th floor and it had a great view of the Omni next door! We could also see the water and Petco Park but I'm not sure the water view rooms are worth the extra money. There were no ballgames during the week so it was very quiet around the area where the Marriott is located. The only complaint is that noise is easily heard through the interior door of rooms that are adjoining as ours was. It was only an issue on the last day of our stay. Parked across the street at the Ace parking garage and averaged about $10 per day in parking fees. It was very convenient being directly across from the hotel entrance. Food at the hotel is okay but would recommend eating elsewhere. Great breakfast a few blocks and an easy walk to Cafe 222 located at 2nd & Island. Also great Thai food at Rama which is only a couple of blocks away. You really don't need a car if you plan to stay in the downtown area as most everything you'll need is an easy walk from the hotel. Went to rooftop bar Altitude on our first day at the hotel. There was an afternoon game at Petco Park and the bar was packed. It's a good spot if you are a twenty-something, but at 38 I felt extremely old at the place. A reviewer recently wrote about the floors at the hotel not being level. I did see what they were referring to throughout the hotel including hallway and room, but they are blowing it way out of proportion. There is nothing about it that should make you feel unsafe at the hotel. If I needed to stay in downtown SD I would definitely stay here again.
