Gershwin Hotel - New York City, USA

My husband and I went to NY for the first time for our 30th wedding anniversary in April. I chose the Gershwin because I loved the sound and look of it. It was wonderful: in a superb position just around the corner from the fantastic Flatiron and the sublime Empire State. It has subways and great delis nearby. It's really quirky with wonderful original art and furniture: we had a lime green leather chair in our room and a huge print of Picasso above the bed! The exterior is stunning - magenta walls and huge sculptural lights like cocoons. It was always spotless with a great bathroom with a very deep bath! The staff were always helpful and friendly and were able to direct us when ever we asked Staying in such an unusual place really put the icing on what was an absolutely wonderful week in NY . I would highly recommend it.

Awful, we stayed only a short time and then left. I was shocked and dismayed by the room we were given. Very small room, poorly maintained, dingy, run down, strange taste in decoration. The staff is very low class.

Great for the youngs!

I've just returned from NYC where I stayed 3 nights at the Gershwin Hotel. The best thing about it is the location. Actually, my expectations were low but, for my surprise, I had a good experience there. It looks like weird when you see the pictures and it's exactly like that when you arrive there. But don't worry, it's fine. This hotel was the cheapest with private bathroom inside the room I found in the city, that's why I chose it. The room is very small, but both the room and bathroom are clean. People were nice and gave me tips for the subway and taxis. The location is not bad at all, the Empire State building is very close, like 3-4 blocks and there is a good option for breakfast, lunch and dining (also pretty cheap) just 1 block from the hotel. The subway station is also close (1 1/2 block). I wouldn't recommend it for families and seniors.
