"Christmas in New York"Posted: Wed, Dec 31 1969Value:
3My husband and I decided this year for Christmas we would do something we had never done before, go shopping in New York City. We were a little frustrated at first because after researching the internet for a hotel, we thought we were going to have to pay an exorborant amount. But we actually got a really good deal right in the heart of the city. We stayed at the Regency Inn and Suites at 34th and 8th Avenue ($152/night). Although it's not the most luxurious hotel, it was clean and in an excellent location. The Subway was right across the street and we could walk to a lot of the attractions such as The Empire State Building, Time Square, Rockefeller Center and of course the beautifully decorated Macy's.
We took the subway to chinatown to find the real bargains. WOW!! What an awesome experience. Since we were there to shop, we were intriqued by the street vendors selling anything and everything you could imagine. We made our way from shop to shop and had a delicious lunch at an authentic Chinese restaurant. It was costly, $50 for lunch but it was well worth it.
There is one bit of advice that I would highly recommend, do not drive into the city. I thought I was going to have a heart attack between the tunnel and our hotel. If I were able to do it again, I would fly into the City and take a taxi to the hotel. Besides the traffic, it can cost up to $50/day for parking at the hotels. So be wise and fly. Hope you enjoyed the blog as much as we enjoyed the trip.
