"Best Hotel Yet"

I have been to new york at least a coupel of dozen times, stayed at many affordable/budget hotels and this is definitely the best. The price is right, the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. We had the shared bathroom but we never had to wait for it. I didn't even see/hear another "user". The air conditioning worked fine, we had a good view (which means anything other than a brick wall) and it was just two blocks from the subway station. There's an excellent grocery store and good restaurants nearby along with a Barney's co-op just up the street!

Good location/neighborhood setting, great price, felt safe even sharing a bathroom in the hallway. Rooms done tastefully contemporary, sink and refrigerator in room. The elevators were so slow and small otherwise could not think of a thing to worry about, again the price was great.
Value location.
Elevator speed.

Absolutely no complaints -- personnel were friendly and helpful, service was above average. Our rooms were comfortable and very clean, the linens plentiful and fresh. Quiet with not a lot of hustle and bustle except the expected outside night noises. The location was great -- near bus and subway stops. Several nice restaurants very convenient. We especially enjoyed the Manhattan Diner which was just across the street.

We were most disappointed in this hotel. Having booked through online travel website before, we expected the hotel to be reflective of the rating. It didn't look anything like the pictures. Obviously, this is an older apartment building that was converted into a hotel. The rooms give the feeling that rats could be crawling around. The lobby is tiny and thank goodness there wasn't a fire while we were there because the halls are extremely narrow and wandering. The bathroom was old and to say that this hotel had been updated was very misleading. Our room was very hot (even in December), so we turned the A/C on and it make loud noises each and every night that kept us awake. With this being our first trip to NY, we needed to get to a TV show taping on the first morning of our trip. We arrived at 11PM the night before and hadn't acclimated to the location of the hotel as it related to all of NY. The front desk assured us that the bellman would get us a cab in the morning to get us to the taping on time. He flagged us one of the "unregulated black cabs" that ripped us off. They charged us $35.00 for a 1/2 mile ride. I would have thought that the hotel would look after their "guests" instead of taking advantage of them and allowing them to be ripped off. Needless to say, after this experience, we got our own yellow cabs for the rest of the trip. There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel, but the Manhattan Diner is nearby and has good food. We would NEVER make another reservation in this hotel.
