"Great hotel, great location"

We stayed here in July, 2006. This was our third time to stay in the Bedford. I cannot complain about anything. The accommodation is fine. I've read some reviews complaining about the standard of the rooms, but, so far, we have always been given really nice double bedrooms. Maybe we're lucky, but we have never had a problem with the plumbing. It's in a great location. Grand Central is just two blocks away. Blooms Deli on the corner is ok for breakfast only. However, this time we found an even better deli for breakfast just further down the street (towards 39th St). Sorry, but I can't remember the name.

We stayed here for a romantic vacation. The hotel was a great value for the location. It was in a good part of town, Park Avenue and 40th in East Manhattan, so we felt safe walking around, even at night. It was only a short walk, about 2 blocks, from Grand Central Station. Since we were getting around by subway this was very convenient. In good weather it was definitely within walking distance of Times Square and many other area attractions, shops, and restaurants. The hotel was a bit older which i found appealing. It appeared that the bathroom in our room had recently been remodeled and was very clean, had nice fixtures, and a fresh coat of paint. The shower was hot and the bed comfortable. We were there in December so it was in the 20's outside, but always warm and toasty inside. There is a window unit air conditioner in the room that we used to circulate the air since there was no way to adjust the radiator when we got too warm. There was a little bit of street noise at times but never enough to bother me--part of the New York experience! There is no restaurant in the hotel but the staff was very helpful giving us directions to all the restaurants nearby.

The Bedford is a lovely, charming hotel in the heart of Manhattan. Our room was spacious and having our own kitchenette was a lovely addition. The staff were incredibly friendly and courteous and organized our transport to JFK at the end of our stay. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who's looking for a nice, friendly hotel close to all the sights. I'd certainly stay here again on my next trip to The Big Apple!

Okay
Old, but cosy and comfortable

Instead of a studioroom we received upon arrival a suite with a separate sittingroom, a small kitchen area, a bedroom with two beds, and a very small but clean bathroom. This was very convenient and comfortabel to us, althoug the view was not very much appealing, the bedroom view was obstructed by a stonewall, but had a second (flatscreen) tv and was very quite. We had free internet in the room, a coffeemaker and a small, very slow cooking unit, a fridge, and some tableware. We feeled happy with it. The hotellobby is in fact much too small for the number of rooms, but we never used the lobby, while the hotel was close to many attractions, restaurants, deli's and Starbucks to sit down and rest, also very nearby a busstation and Central Station, it was very easy to go anywhere you like, for example to the ferry and cruiseboats, Times Square and within walking distance of Macy's. The service in the hotel is good, friendly and cooperative. If we go to NYC again, we will choose this old but cosy hotel again, because it is hard to find a similar decent priced hotel in this area, NYC is an very expensive place to stay.
