I stayed here as part of a Topdeck trip last year. This is truly a gem--an affordable Swiss hotel with breathtaking views and first class charm. The ride up to the hotel on "Europe's Oldest Cog Railway" is a treat in and of itself. I looked it up and it appears to be about $62 Euros/night/person here. I would figure it's pretty affordable if it's part of a Topdeck tour, but you would never guess when you get there that it's a budget property.
As mentioned (ad infinitum), the views are just spectacular. There are no words to convey how delightful it is--and the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows to give you the full effect. The rooms have the exposed wooden beams and homey quilts that you would hope for in any chalet. The mattresses were very comfy, and the room was warmed so much we slept with the window open, which was wonderful considering the fresh mountain air.
There is a room with several computers for internet (I think 1 Euro/hour?) and a phone for business. Upstairs the bar is fantastic, with an enormous fireplace and more sweeping vistas.
The staff was also amazing--extremely friendly, helpful, and just plain fun. The bartender stayed up serving us drinks until a ridiculously late hour, and I've never seen anyone seem so delighted to deal with a bunch of rowdy tourists. I think it's the mountain air--puts everyone in a good mood.
The breakfast was pretty good--the standard ham, cheese, bread, more cheese and more ham European fare. We also had a "traditional Swiss dinner" as part of our tour--and there was more cheese and ham!
However, the traditional fare was more than made up for by the cozy atmosphere, genial staff, fabulous views and peaceful setting. Stay here if you get the chance! It's an true experience.

We spent a full week here on half board during the last week in June, and the entire experience was wonderful. The hospitality of the team at Hostellerie was second to none. The food excellent - in fact our four course evening meal each night mean't no eating during the day, after our breakfast.
The room we had was at the front of the hotel with beautiful views of Lake Luzern and the mountains to the south. We really didn't want to leave as everything was so great. The hotel is located very close to the Rigi Kaltbad cable car and cog railway station, so very easy to travel down to either Weggis or Vitznau.
The hotel is also located on the path of several very good walks around the mountain.
No cars in the village means that the location is perfect for a very quiet and relaxing break - however long it is.
We are certainly thinking of coming back again.
