Just returned from a four-night stay at this gem of a hotel in LA's downtown financial district and cannot say enough good things about the accomodations or the staff. I was attending a convention at the nearby Westin Bonaventure but wanted a quieter, less impersonal hotel and Checkers was within walking distance (although I used cabs or the hotel's complimentary car service at night).
I was able to book a Hilton Reward stay with points, but would readily pay $250-300/night. I had requested a corner king room which was quite spacious with a large bathroom and work desk area. Housekeeping was fantastic and, by asking the front desk to send someone up when I came down for breakfast, my room was immediately and immaculately cleaned. Towels were very plush and large and my requests to have all feather pillows/bedding removed before arrival were filled.
I took advantage of Hilton's pre-arrival offer of a complimentary mini-refrigerator which was set-up and cooled down before check-in. There is a small food store, Fammima, around the corner from the hotel on 5th Street where I picked up bottled water, juice, fruit & yogurt.
Disappointment was my initial reaction to the rooftop pool as it is quite small and, on the weekend, was crowded with a few families. However, on the weekdays I had the rooftop mostly to myself and the view of the surrounding landmark architecture was spectacular! The pool was clean, the lounge furniture well-kept and stocked with towels...a perfect break from meetings!
The bar downstairs was lovely with comfortable couch groupings. I only had breakfast downstairs in the restaurant...which was quite good...but did attend a private function dinner in one of the 2nd floor meeting rooms and the meal was delicious.
IThe staff was extremely helpful, receptive and there were always doormen and security at the front entrance. As I was a woman travelling alone, I did feel that they went out of their way to make sure I had transportation and was welcomed bach on my returns
I had read mixed reviews on this site but I certainly felt that I had a top-quality stay and service!

We stayed at the Hilton for one night on June 29th. We were at the end of an 8 week holiday across the US and had stayed at some basic chain hotels so to have a little bit of luxury at the end was nice. Also we had just spent 4 days on Amtrak so of course we appreciated the Hilton. The check-in staff were very nice and our room was small but the bed was very comfortable. We had a problem with our shower and the maintenace man was there to fix it immediately. We didn't eat at the restaurant which looked a bit expensive but there is a very reasonable Yorkshire Grill just around the corner which the hotel staff were happy to direct us to. There was no problem leaving our luggage in storage for the day while we walked up to the Fashion District for some last minute shopping bargains. The walk was about 6 blocks but very interesting. We were able to use the changing facilities near the pool prior to leaving for the airport. I was surprised at the $55 taxi fare to the airport. Next time I would take a shuttle from the hotel. It is not the hotel shuttle but they could arrange one at $18 per person. A good way to end our US holiday.
