This hotel met all the requirements of one night downtown in a clean, cheap room. There were faults such as a dodgy key and phone and I found the checkin person not overly helpful or knowledgable about tourist info or even about the hotel. We were put in a queen room after double checking it was a twin but we couldn't be bothered asking for another room once we got there. The technician was very helpful with the key and the phone as were other staff. Perhaps she was a new staff member.

These guys wasted my time and money. I have ordered some goods through internet ($5000 worth of photo equipment) and arranged to pick up the package at hotel reception on arrival (Saturday). I'm from Europe, so it was the most convenient for me. I was supposed to leave on Sunday morning and start my American holidays. But the package wasn't there! I've spent there Saturday evening, whole Sunday and half of the Monday nervous, concerned about my goods, waiting for the manager. And on Monday they said it was "put somewhere else, and there it is". Not even an "I'm sorry", and I had to pay for Sunday night, even if it was their fault that I have stayed for another night. BTW, package was marked with my date of arrival. And they have shared bathrooms on top of that mess.

I stayed at the Cecil Hotel during E3 this year (July14th-18th 2008). Overall it was a decent hotel. Make sure you request a room with a bathroom in the room. The rooms are rather small, but if you are gone most of the day, its not too bad. Just FYI, there is not AC in the rooms, so if you plan on being in the room a lot, then this might not be the place for you. Like I mentioned before I was gone most of the day, so by the time I was getting back to the hotel, it was around 8-9 pm so it was cooling off enough to open the window and turn the ceiling fan on and it was comfortable all night. Staff was friendly, the area around I was told was rough, and believe me I'm not a fighter, but felt safe. They do have a Security Staff on 24/7 and were always present. Also there is no "free" parking though right next door is a paid parking, though I dont know how much it was as I took a shuttle from the airport to hotel then relied on buses or my feet. Everything is close enough, to me it was a waste of money to have a car. The bus system is pretty good and can get you to the the LACC within ten minutes and you can walk within 20 min. Metro Station is just a couple blocks down the road also. If your looking to save money, this is the place to stay, if your bringing your family you might want to stay elsewhere. I'm going to stay their when I come out for E for All in October.

yes, i booked this hotel for 4 days and i thought it would be nice to be located in downtown but it turned out that it is an unsafe area!! after 8 p.m. it is dangerous to go outside the hotel because there are lots of people would just wondering around the blocks in front of the hotels. it is very unsafe for us travelers. the room smells, the sink is dirty, the bed is uncomfortable, the bathroom is outside!!!! so does the toilet!! i really regretted staying in here. so yeah, don't ever stay here again!!

do not try to save money and stay at this hotel. The pictures are very decieving it looks like a brand new room in the pictures but they are far from new. The room I had was very old the only thing new was the paint on the walls. It was over 100 degrees the night I stayed here and surprise! no air conditioing! The elevator brought me up to the 15th floor but when I went to go back down it was broken and wouldnt come back up to my floor! nobody bothered to tell me it was broken so I had to walk down to a lower floor to get on the elevator. There was no remote contol for the tv, and only a sheet on the bed, no comforter. I would expect a room like this from a hostel in europe not a hotel in LA
