The bathroom needed major plaster repair and a good steam cleaning. The "free shuttle" doesn't run very often; lunch and dinner breaks are endless.. Read review

With its small but stylish lobby and front desk, the Essex is a no frills hotel in a fairly quiet spot. The maid was helpful when requests were offered. The bathroom is quite small especially when helping younger children get ready for the day or shower off after the pool. The water was warm and the pool size was decent. The sauna and showers were working and accessible.. Read review

This hotel has a great location on Michigan Avenue, clean , comfortable rooms, a fabulous indoor swimming pool and an excellent exercise room. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and there are many good restaurants, bars and clubs in the area. I really liked the free shuttle they have that takes you to Navy Pier and the North Michigan Avenue shopping district. The room rates were very, very reasonable compared to other hotels.. Read review

Staff was dishonest, condescending, negligent, and incompetent. We had a guaranteed room that was apparently sold to a higher bidder. We were sent to an inferior hotel in a taxi we didn't plan to take, and the taxi driver took off with our luggage in his trunk. We have yet to recover our luggage. We spent the weekend in the same clothes. We went for a concert. Due to the problems with the Park Hyatt not having our room, we were late to the concert and missed part of it, we left early due to my wife not having a jacket, our luggage was lost, and we wasted most of our time unsuccessfully trying to recover our lost luggage which contained several hundred dollars worth of our items, including my Blackberry. I'm extremely unhappy with the Park Hyatt.

Not a damned thing.

They sold my room to someone else. They completely screwed my trip.

Our room was on the small side, as was the bathroom, but it was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. It had the duvet-type beddding, instead of a nasty bedspread, and I always appreciate that. We paid $* for our room, and were happy to find a mini-frig, coffee pot, and ice down the hall. Parking was $37. Lobby's small, but who cares? Huge swimming pool, sauna and workout area at no extra charge.

This hotel is very close to the Shedd aquarium and Field museum, that was the main reason why I booked it, and that it is one of only a few hotels in downtown Chicago with an indoor pool. We were quite pleased with how easy it was to find. The parking garage is on the side street, so we did have to go around the block. Parking in down town is very expensive, Even here plan to tack on * a night for your vehicle to be parked in their garage, but that does inclued the valet, so not a terrible price. The pool was very spacious, but a little cold. The front desk staff were quite friendly and knowledgable about the neighborhood,(there is a Walgreens within about 10 blocks) and sending us to a very good steakhouse for super(Millers Pub). Other than the cold pool I'd say the only thing that was a negative was the noise, you can hear conversations in the adjacent rooms, as well as the noise from the train a couple blocks away. All in all a pretty good stay, and the restaurant down stairs is very good for breakfast and quite reasonably priced.
