0Read the other reviews and got exactly what I expected. This is a great "old" hotel within walking distance of Wrigley Field. Wife is a huge "Cubbies" fan and she loved the location.
The spotless room is small by today?s standards, and the hotel is an older building with great charm. It was however, a great spot for our two-night stay. Staff is friendly and very helpful with ticket and meal information. Breakfast (bagels/muffins) was perfect for a day of sight seeing as we only wanted something light before stopping in for some deep-dish pizza. Easy rail/bus commute from O'Hare with a short walk.
We were not looking for a romantic getaway, and needed a good room as a base for operations. It was very quiet a night, and the window unit cooled the room well. You will need to splurge for a larger room to lounge.
The old fashioned elevator was amusing, but the stairs are faster. The building had it's own smell. Not a bad odor at all, but you knew you were not in a carbon copy chain hotel. I am a fan of old buildings with history and this one feels like it has plenty.
If you are going to Chicago and want to feel like a local stay here and walk to Wrigley and smell the flowers along the way. If you need to shop downtown and be in the middle of it all, it is not for you.
Be advised it is a very gay friendly area and if that is going to freak you out, then do not say you have not been told.
I will stay here again and fully expect to enjoy it again. Ladies, my wife thought the hotel was great as well and enjoyed it.
Hope this helps.
