At first glance we thought this was a quaint little house in the middle of the village shops. Very quickly, however, we discovered the awful truth that we had made the biggest mistake of our Turkish holiday.
When we arrived we were told to park our car right out the front of the house, even though there was not much room for the many tractors that drove up and down the street at all hours. The 1st 2 days the shop keepers put obstacles where the car was to be parked whenever we returned from an outing. On the 3rd day the shop keepers became verbally hostile(which included locals shouting at us through the house windows) and called the Jandarmerie and asked them to tell us to move the car. The hotel manger initially refused to get involved, but eventually started arguing with the Jandarmerie which ended in her losing the argument and telling us to move the car. I might add that I only speak several words of Turkish and so was unable to make much comment. I do not appreciate being dragged into local disputes that should have been sorted out by the hotel manager. After all that, the shop keepers were openly hostile toward my family, including my 5 yr old child and wife who both had nothing to do with the situation.
The house itself was clean enough, however, if you looked under the bed or in cupboards, or any covered space, there was building refuse and old rubbish. The manager was very disorganised. She would agree to something one day and then swear blind she never agreed to it the next. This became a significant problem when she said we could pay by credit card and then when it came to check out, this was suddenly a big deal. Consequently, this led to alot of time wasting when we had to drive her down the mountain to the next town to find an ATM.
Our favourite part of the day was the call to prayer from the mosque directly opposite our bedroom window, which was like being woken up by a megaphone right next to your ear. Oh, and the 1/2 Km walk to breakfast to another building was just enchanting with the rustic charm of donkey and goat manure strewn along a dirt track up the side of a hill.
