Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi address: Ishak Pasa Caddesi Kutlugun Sokak No:1, Istanbul, 9000

Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi details: Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi, a delightful boutique hotel of outstanding individuality and charm created in a converted, refurbished 19th century Ottoman mansion, proud to uphold the traditions of Old World Turkish hospitality. The hotel is located right in the heart of the Ancient City, the city of Caesars and Sultans, one of the oldest, most exciting and exotic cities in the world, Istanbul.

Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi is proud to serve those guests who prize the unique ambience and charm of a bygone age as well as comfort, care and convenience.

Valide Sultan is the name of the Queen Mother - the 2nd most important person in the Ottoman Empire after her son, the sultan (emperor).

The Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi, or Mansion of the Queen Mother, is located appropriately just outside the walls of Topkapi Palace in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Grand (for its size), with a true Ottoman feeling to it: the hotel offers gilded furniture, rich curtains and mouldings, many mirrors, and Queen Motherly touches of decor in many of the rooms.

The Valide Sultan's location is excellent. At the quiet northern end of Kutllugun Sok, right across the street from the Four Season Hotel. Ayasofya (St.Sophia) and the gate to Topkapi Palace are both a 2-minute walk away.

The hotel's roof terrace has unobstructed views of the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, St.Sophia and of the Topkapi Palace walls.

Rooms

All rooms are designated by the type of bed(s) with which it is furnished: i.e. Double Room or Twin Room. An exception is the special Princess Room, where the centrepiece four-poster bed evokes the long-forgotten era of crinolines and morning jackets. A stay here is a jaunt into the past, but with modern conveniences included.
All of the rooms are comfortable and spotless, and each is individually decorated with great care and finesse to reflect the refined graces of the 19th century, with hardwood parquet floors accented with lovely Turkish rugs and translucent curtains, as well as opaque drapes to keep out sunlight when you wish.more info ...

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Valide Sultan Konagi Hotel in the Sultanahmet section of Istanbul. I recommend the hotel for its great location, incredibly nice staff and restaurant with amazing view. It is not as luxurious as its four-star rating might imply, but the rooms are definitely pretty and clean and comfortable. There is an elevator to all the floors; I know people in the forums have been curious about accessibility in Sultanahmet hotels. If walking is an issue for anyone the area is hilly. For instance the entrance to the Topkapi Palace is a one steep uphill block away and maybe three to the Hagia Sophia. The rooms don't have safes but there are individual safes behind the front desk. There is wi-fi in the lobby, but I was able to get the signal in my room... don't know it that was because I was on a lower floor. As far as the room goes, the beds are very comfortable (easy to sleep late!), there's a minibar restocked with drinks daily and the bathroom was good - standup shower, no tub, but other rooms might be different. They have complimentary airport pickup -- the friendly driver was right there on time and the ride in to the hotel was easy. They don't accept American Express.. the people who checked out before me had problems because they had reserved the room on Amex so thought the could charge the room on it. All in all it is a really nice hotel and I recommend it.

We stayed in the Hotel Valide Sultan for three nights. We found a discount rate for this hotel through Orbitz and contacted them directly. They matched the rate (85 Euros). When we arrived the owner sat in the lobby and talked with us for a while. She encouraged people to contact her directly. This hotel looks like a fake Ottoman hotel (maybe it isn't) and is not as atmospheric as Kybele. On the other hand, the rooms are nice (though the d?cor is a over the top)We had a beautiful view from our room of the Bosphorus. The rooftop restaurant was wonderful. Best views to the Bosphorus (better for instance than the Sari Konak though in the evening there is a restaurant so you can't just sit up here). Breakfast was great on the rooftop. The folks on the frontdesk were warm and friendly. We had a problem with our credit card then the front desk sorted it out for us. We definitely would stay here again. (but beware of problems with overbooking reported on Tripadvisor). The best location because it is quiet and just a short walk up to Topaki.
