Location

Situated in the heart of the city, the hotel is within walking distance of many of Istanbul's most famous sights.

Blue Mosque (0.2 km) – The Mosque was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. The stunning architecture has made the mosque one of Istanbul’s greatest tourist attractions.

St. Sophia (0.35 km) – Now a museum, this impressive building is famous for its massive dome and is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

Topkapi Palace (0.4 km) - After the fall of Constantinople, the palace became not just the primary residence of the Ottoman sultans and their households, but also the administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire from 1465 to 1853. In the hey-day of the Ottoman Empire, about 4,000 people resided in the palace.

Grand Bazaar (0.85 km) - One of the largest covered markets in the world with more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops, the bazaar has between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. It is well known for its jewellery, pottery, leather goods, spices, and carpet shops.

We stayed at Erguvan Hotel for four nights in June 2008 after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. This was the final hotel in our 5 week trip to Europe and it was the best hotel we stayed at (and it wasn't the most expensive hotel). The rooms were immaculate, the location was fantastic and the staff were lovely. The only criticism would be that the sound proofing between the rooms wasn't great, so if you had noisey neighbours you could hear them. We would definately stay at the hotel again if we were to go back to Istanbul. Little tip ... if you are going to get a taxi back to the hotel at night, take a little map with you (there is one on the back of the hotels business card) as the taxi drivers can't find the hotel.

We stayed at the Erguvan for a long weekend mid-July. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, and the cleaners did a fantastic job everyday. The location is very good, only a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and a fantastic artisan market. The views from the roof terrace were fantastic. The outdoor restaurant slightly up the hill and across the street from the hotel was fantastic. My only complaint about the hotel really is that the soundproofing in the hotel is terrible. You need to be a deep sleeper or not worry about noise as the cleaners start at 8am and with the hard floored hallways you can hear them banging about. Also as we were on the first floor we could hear anyone talking in the courtyard as it tends to funnel noise straight up, we could also hear the t.v the guy on the desk was watching late Saturday night (to the point I had to call and ask them to turn it down!). The beds I found to also be on the hard side. However overall a nice hotel. I would class it more in the posh backbackers level.
