Antik Hotel - Istanbul, Turkey

I and my wife stayed for four days. The hotel is close to many tourist points.The service was good. Breakfast good. Antik is located in a small street close to main avenue.Room was big and very clean.

Unfriendly Hotel

I booked this hotel for 8 of my friends for a long weekend 05/2008. Whilst the hotel rooms were ok, I found the staff quite unfriendly, and unhelpful. For instance the first night when we needed a cab to go to a restaurant, they said it's best to go and hail one from the streets. 30 mins later and drenched from the rain, we returned to the hotel and insisted they book a taxi. They did and it came in 5 mins. No reason given for the original brush off. We needed our shirts ironed one evening, however there are no irons in the rooms, and when we asked, the paid ironing service was closed. The desk said a local shop would iron them, and quoted an unreasonable price. We agreed with the hotel, but 1/2 an hour later they came back unironed, and our money returned without any explanation. Thanks Antik. When we checked out we ordered a taxi to take us to the airport. there were 5 of us on this flight, and ask the front desk for a larger taxi. They charged us for the price of 2 taxi's and squeezed us into a 4 seater taxi. The taxi arranged by the hotel was also illegal as the driver said to pretend we were related to him if the police asked. Not much choice when you got a plane to catch. In my view it seems that once the hotel's booked you have to stay there - the money's now in the bank & the hotel staff do not make any effort with you or care about your stay. I only require the basics from a hotel, good location, clean rooms, and some basic service. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Why take a chance with Antik, there are so many other hotels in Istanbul.

Upon arrival our car keys were snatched from us and the car taken away, no further mention was made other than that it would be available anytime on request, implying as the hotel facilities described, from their own parking lot. The next day when we requested the car the hotel tried to charge us 24YTL, when we produced a orint out of their web page they agreed to pay for this amount but all further costs to be halved, which we agrred to. Upon check out they had included the 24YTL. Each time we arrived back at the hotel with the car the staff would take the keys and ignore our discription of where we'd parked the car, literally they would turn their backs. As such, the car would remain where it was for hours until we'd complain and fight to have it parked. There was no parking in the area and the car was parked illegally until they'd move it. Upon arrival, we'd been given two single beds when the only condition made prior to booking confirmation was that there be one double bed. Eventually a room with a double bed was found. Intially they said one wasn't available, then when we were about to leave and go elsewhere (it was midnight) a room was found. Next morning after breakfast (which is the highlight of the hotel) our room card didn't work, after a trip down to reception and more pulling teeth, we were assigned our third room in 10 hrs, from that moment on the staff seemed to deliberately refrain from being helpful or courteous. I'm not sure how the star ratings are adjudicated in Istanbul, but the Antik Hotel is nowhere near 4 star.
