We moved to Garden House after one night in a small hotel close to Aya Sophia. It is in a quiet neighbourhood, 6-7 minutes walk downhill and S of the Blue Mosque. Our room on the fourth floor was much more spacious and airy than in the previous hotel, and much quieter, the call to prayer aside. In the June heat, having a breeze through the room, as well as the air conditioner, is a boon. The large airy courtyard downstairs made breakfasts a relaxing start to each day, and a welcome haven for a drink in the evening. Garden House is a recently-renovated old building, with relatively large uncluttered rooms. It is still undergoing renovation to the top floor rooms, which will have sea views. Toting two heavy cases, we appreciated the wide main stairway. The staff were helpful and friendly, assisting us with mail and internet access. The room was spotless. We are experienced travellers who prefer to stay in small locally-run hotels, and Garden House is one of the best we have used.
