Dersaadet Hotel Istanbul - Istanbul, Turkey     

I chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed! The hotel has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail so that you truly feel you are entering an Ottoman home. Our room and bathroom were spotless and although small never seemed cramped. We paid for a sea view and it was well worth it. The views were wonderful. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace offered a good choice and it was a lovely start to the day. Having a drink at the end of a busy day was even better. We stayed 10 days as my husband was taking photographs for his book on Istanbul. This necessitated visiting far flung parts of the city and the hotel staff were very helpful in giving advice on how to get around. They always welcomed us back on our return so it felt like coming home. All the staff struck the right balance between friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The location behind the Blue Mosque meant easy access to the main sites of the old city and there are plenty of small restaurants within easy walking distance.This is an excellent choice for a short or long stay in Istanbul.
