My stay at the hotel poem was probably one of the highlight of my recent trip to Istanbul. The staff arev friendly, the rooms though basic (and what can you expect at this proce,) were nevertheless clean, and mine had an excellent view of the Bosphouros. The surrounding area is know as Backpackers alley, but does include some excellent bars, and probably the best nightlife for tourists on the old town side of the golden horn. Despite the lack of a bar, the staff are happy to serve drinks on the garden view terrace. This is an ideal spot to sit and relax after a hectic day sightseeing in Old Stamboul.

The published views from the terrace did not materialise, because of the large trees. It was very difficult to find from the map on the website.

Excellent location if you want to be in the heart of Sultanahmet. Very clean hotel. Friendly staff. We used this hotel as the first and last stop on a backpacking trip around Turkey. Compared with other hotels/ guesthouses on our trip, Hotel Poem did not offer the best value for money - but this is the tourist heart of Istanbul! Would definitely recommend this hotel.

For me, the Hotel Poem turned out to have been a lucky choice. My room was quiet and I slept well (not usually the case in the middle of a city), and there was a good view out over the Bosphorus. Breakfast (out on the terrace) was excellent, especially the tea. When I return to Istanbul next year, I mean to stay at this hotel again.
