La Bruyere - Paris, France     

La Bruyere! We arrived and didn't receive a great welcome - a young girl (guest!) sat in reception helpfully pointed out the lift/where our room was. Arriving on the shabby landing, the landing/fire door was off its hinges and a dud window in the staircase revealed a stone wall and wires hanging down. The room itself was pretty grim; stains on the carpet, light switch hanging off the wall, bed cover was stained, mould on the wall, net curtain propped up on the curtain rails. The bathroom was vile! mould covered the ceiling and shower area, shower head was broken and not fitted to the wall. The most concerning thing was that the main reception door was locked on the four nights we came back. Our key only opened our room door and not this front door. The first evening was my birthday night out so was 3am and no-one came for a while so we were panicking. We felt bad for waking him up but it did say 24 hr reception. The following nights we were back earlier but the entrance was still locked but someone was sat in the back room awake. Breakfast was quite good and also fresh towels every day. The staff on the whole were polite apart from the guy we got when we arrived/same guy who we woke up when we got back that first night. Pigalle isn't good - I would definitely stay elsewhere i.e. the latin quarter which is beautiful. Paris is amazing and the french are lovely friendly people.

just returned from a whistle stop visit to paris and stayed at the hotel bruyere for 1 night. bed extremely comfortable and clean, room and bathroom small, However, was adequate for what we needed. noise seemed to travel easily between rooms. the staff were friendly and helpful and the area was great. lots of bars and restaurants nearby and within very easy walking distance of the opera, moulin rouge and sacre coeur.
