This was our first hotel stay in Turkey outside of Istanbul, so at first we thought is was a bad hotel. In hindsight, it is actually a pretty decent hotel by Turkish standards, which I now think are generally poor. The location is perfect: right in the centre of town and just across the circle from the ferry terminal. The rooms were pretty basic: what I would call a 1- or 2-star, what they might call 3-star. We had a decent view (photo attached) and had no complaints with the staff. They have their own secured parking lot around back - the first right up the one-way lane after the hotel, and the first driveway on the right again. You may have to send someone around front to get them open it if they don't see you.

The Hotel Helen stands near the harbour end of Cumhuriyet Meydani, about 100m from the ferry terminal, and a easy 15min walk from the bus station –(dolmus transfer is also available to the harbour). It is easy to find as it stands almost opposite two large guns from the Gallipoli campaign. (from the bus station just follow the signs for the Feribot terminal). The Helen is a solid 3 star hotel, in very good decorative order. Rooms are a good size; with double glazing, central heating, air-conditioning, TV, good bathrooms, a power shower and lashings of hot water. Reception is welcoming and efficient. There are two lifts. The buffet breakfast (included in the price) is a good one. The staff speak reasonable English; the General Manager, Ali Aldemir, speaks fluent English. Opposite the hotel are two banks, both with ATMs. The ferries across the Hellespont to Eceabat (for Gallipoli tours) is 100m from the front door. There are many bars and restaurants within 150m. The hotel can arrange tours to Troy (Truva), Assos (Bekramale), and the Gallipoli peninsular. The Helen has a great location, good rooms and good staff. Highly recommended. [-]
