I've been staying in the Prince for a long time now, maybe 10 years or longer, and felt I had to write after reading the only other review.
It isn't the newest of hotels, it isn't the best decorated, but is that everything. The rooms are very big compared to the majority of other hotels I've stayed in around Thailand. The pool is larger then a lot in Chaing Mai.
Where the Prince scores is in the quirky character of the place. How many hotels have you stayed in with a stuffed gorilla in reception and key fobs in the form of large wooden bears? Yes it has seen better days, but in the many rooms I’ve stayed in there everything has always worked. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Big beds. It is always clean, I’ve never seen a cockroach there. The hotel has a nice small garden area near to the pool which is very pleasant to sit in and read.
The staff have always been so friendly and courteous and have always made my stay there pleasant. They often book my flights or train back to Bangkok without any trouble.
The breakfast there isn't the best I've ever had, but just across the road is a great cafe owned by an Austrailian guy.
If you prefer the cheap bland rooms that abound in Chaing Mai, then don’t bother with the Prince. If you like something with some character, plenty of space, good location the give this old lady a try.
