I stayed in this quite depressing hotel for three nights in January 2008.
I arrived at the hotel on a sunday morning straight from the airport after a gruelling 21 hour flight from the UK.
I found the reception staff quite miserable and unhelpful.
The room was not as clean as it should have been but I would not go as far as saying it was" filthy " or " disgusting ".
The room was hot with no air con and the cleaners insisted on leaving the bloody curtains wide open when I had closed them to try and keep the place cool.
Some of the power sockets in the room did not work and some of the furniture was falling apart.
They also close the bar at 9.30 pm for some strange reason(probably plain bone idleness)
The place definately needs some money spending on it and the staff a good kick up the arse.
One positive point about the hotel is that the breakfast was good, that's about all !.
There is not much to do in the immediate area as it is mainly residential although there is an excellent diner and a couple of shops about five minutes walk away.
Only use this hotel if you have to and only for one night.
I paid the same rate for this hotel as I did for the Kingsgate hotel in Whangarei Northland which was first class heaven.

Sounds like things haven't improved since we stayed overnight with our son and his young family on our way north to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary. Our young ones had flown in the day after us from Oz so we met them and decided the break in travel would be good for the grandchildren. I booked and had confirmed all that we required only to be greeted by some imature young buck who couldn't put two sentences together. Our rooms were stuffed up and they weren't going to try too hard to fix it. On returning to Oz i wrote a letter of complaint stating that we were Kiwis which was shameful in itself and that we would not be recommending the place to anyone else. Guess what not even the courtesy of a reply
