Some Issues with Menam

We ended up at the Menam for 3 nights on a weekend trip from Trang, Thailand. A girl we were traveling with had family in the convention booking business and hooked us up with a room. At first we were most impressed. We stayed on the executive floor and the room was nice with views of the river. Our gripe was that all of the services such as spa, concierge, and transportation were separate entities from the hotel and seemed to try and take us for anything they could. We asked about hiring a tour guide for the day and the concierge direct us to transportation and all they wanted was to sell us a car for 3,000 baht ($100). We tried to book a massage and asked if they could come to them room, we were told no, but after being in Thailand we learned to ask for everything more than once, when we called down they said sure but the price went from 300 baht to 500 baht and then the massage ladies ahd the nerve to ask for tips. You will find tip, tax and vat in probably everything you purchase there so be careful about tipping and be very careful about taxis...make sure they turn on the meter or they will try to charge you double and triple. After a long day in Bangkok all we wanted was to sit by the pool and have a relaxing lunch but when we arrived at 2pm to find the pool closed for a dinner they were having at 6pm. We aksed to have chairs and at first were told no but found when we asked again chairs were brought out. the server hovered over us as we ate. Just a bummer experience.

Reservé este hotel a través de un web de descuentos hoteleros y nos salió la noche por 57 € con desayuno incluido (desde la propia web del hotel son 72 €). A diferencia de otros comentarios, creo que el hotel está muy bien situado (en sólo cinco minutos en el shuttle boat llegas a la estación del tren elevado Taskin, desde donde puedes llegar a cualquier sitio). Además, alojarse en la orilla del Chao Phraya es de lo mejor que puedes hacer en Bangkok. Atención con las habitaciones ya que cuando fuimos estaban de refermas y algunos pisos todavía se tenían que actualizar. Y la diferencia de calidades era enorme! El buffet de la mañana estaba muy bien: era muy variado (sólo una pega, poca comida thai, todo occidental) y la terraza donde se podía saborear, al lado de la piscina, muy agradable. En definitiva, en el lugar donde se concentran los hoteles más lujosos de Bangkok, esta es una opción más económica, aunque evidentemente en la ciudad hay establecimientos mucho más baratos.
