"It was great"

We have stayed at this hotel twice, once at the beginning of our trip on February 17 for 4 nights and once again when the end on March 7 for three nights. We booked a dlx room and asked for a high floor. We were given a room on the 15 floor and were treated like VIP. We got a newspaper every morning , could eat breakfast in the lounge on the 16 floor which had a better selection thou the breakfast in the general restaurant was very good as well. There was a happy hour every day at 18:00 in the lounge where we were offered tea, coffee, wine, juice and even beer. there were snacks and fruit as well. The swiming pool was quiet adequate and one could sit on a balcony and watch the river at sunset. The fact that the hotel was a bit far fron the center of town was plus since it was quiet. There were different shops and restaurans right next to the hotel. The shuttel boat to town left every 30 min. and was complimentry. It took 5 min. to get by the boat to the sky train or the public boat pier and was much easier then walking to those station. There was no problem to take a taxi back to the hotel if one didn't want to return to the hotel boat.

Menam - OK!

Stayed at Menam for 1 night in Bangkok. We received a warm welcome upon arrival. The reception was friendly and efficient. Hotel has a nice lobby and public areas which are nicely maintained. The room we had was a river view room with a small window compared to other rooms as it was on a corner on the 10th floor. The room is a bit shabby and could do with a refresh which I believe they are currently doing. The room was not as clean as it could have been. There were hairs all around the bathroom and the basin in the room. The sheets and toweling were clean and fresh which is the main thing for me. The room interconnected with another room with a very thin single door between. We could hear the guests in the other room constantly, however turning the TV on and up with music drowned them out. Breakfast buffet was large with a nice selection. We checked out early morning and stored our bags as we had a late flight. We asked Concierge about a taxi to the Grand Palace which he said would not cost us more than 200THB. He then took us to the Transport counter out front where they tried to charge us 500THB one way to the Palace. Then the Concierge came out and called a taxi. I asked the Taxi driver to turn on the meter (as is required in Thailand). He did not but we just went with it as we thought that 200THB was not a fortune to us. Our return in a Taxi Meter was only 85THB and he took us a much quicker way. We asked if he would wait for us to continue to the Airport as I did not trust the Concierge to get us a proper taxi. The total cost from the Palace to hotel then onto the Airport was only 320THB plus 60THB in tolls (driver got a good tip, I must say) Concierge at the hotel was not happy we had the taxi waiting (I guess he missed out on his cut). The location of the hotel is good only 45THB to get to/from Patpong Markets and approx 85THB to the Palace (don't let concierge try to charge more). If you are going to go places in a taxi walk out to the main road and hail your own and make sure the meter is on. Tuk Tuks will vary and you may want to bargain.

We stayed at the Menam for five days, and with one exception could not have had a better stay. Our room was fine, the meals excellent, the staff attentive, and the river location facilitated access to temples, the skyline, and whatever else we wished to do in Bangkok. We came as part of a small conference group, and the hotel staff responded to our every need. The one issue that proved problematic related to the failure of the hotel to get hot water to our room. The room next door had hot water but not our room. We raised the issue every day, but the problem was never resolved, and the staff never left a message as to their success or failure in addressing the problem. But on balance, this is a fine hotel and our stay was most pleasant.
