3The Chateau is a nice hotel located about 5 minutes walk from the Phloen Chit skytrain station, on a side street. If coming from the airport, the best way to get there is by meter taxi, for which you would expect to pay no more than 300 Baht, which includes the expressway toll, and airport charge (65 + 50 Bht respectively). Because it is not so well known, if the taxi driver has any problem, then ask him to take you to the Conrad (on Wireless rd), and follow the hotel road to the ballroom at the back, where it will exit onto Ruam Rudi right opposite the entrance to the Chateau de Bangkok.
The rooms are really more serviced suites of varying degrees of luxury, however all include a small kitchen area, sink, and refrigerator. However, the rest of the hotel bears all similarities to a hotel itself, but with the advantage of a 24 hour shop next to reception, meaning you can cook yourself something whenever you feel like. The staff are always friendly and “guests” seem allowed back to the rooms without any extra charge.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable, ample size, and all feature a large bathtub, some with Jacuzzi jets aswell. The beds are comfortable, and the TV has a range of international channels. With regard to cost, we made a reservation with the hotel directly, at a cost of around 3200 Baht all in, incl breakfast for 2. This may not be the cheapest in Bangkok, but I believe represents great value for money over what you would pay at the more well known brands of hotel. You also have the benefit that the hotel feels very homely and you soon get the know the staff personally.
The hotel does lack a bar as such, although drinks can be taken in the reception area. However it does have a nice rooftop pool, and a fitness club which includes both sauna and steam room, as well as a few modern exercise machines.
Outside the hotel, if you walk to the right, there is a small parade of shops which include some restaurants, a massage/fitness club, and some bars. I have tried the Witches bar twice now, but always leave feeling ripped off on the drink prices, and the advertised WiFi failed to connect, so I would give that a miss.
