Found this hotel and its staff very friendly and the service good. The owner went out of his way to make us comfortable. Room was basic but clean, dining room had good food and entertainment each nite. Feel that some of the reviews were unfair, must remember where u are and adjust. As to little English spoken ? if u feel that way better to stay home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Had a great stay with the love of my life.
Very memorable Posted: Sun, Jul 20 2008 13 Coins Hotel is not so so so fancy but the staff was friendly. The owner was very helpful and tried himself to accommodate his guests by his hospitality... offering some free drinks to his customers. Nevertheless, i never counted what this hotel lacks. But it is very memorable to me because I had met my love from that place. The owner had made an effort to keep our night lively, he had his band playing and joined with us the fun..dancing and singing. And i would say, I must go back to this place again with my love.
"Grand" Resort? Posted: Fri, Jun 27 2008 Our travel agent booked this place for us in order to stay somewhere "near" the airport as we were only in Bangkok for 1 and a bit nights on our way thru to Europe. We just wanted a budget place to sleep.
The "fun" started when we got a taxi from the airport (what a disaster this new airport is) and it soon became apparent that the taxi driver, who couldn't understand one word of English, didn't have a clue where the 13 Coins was located.
We seemed to go nearly all the way into the city before we became alarmed as this hotel was supposed to be "near the airport!"
At 2am in the morning up some squalid back alley we finally found it! We thought nobody would be awake to let us in, however the lights were on and a sleepy young Thai boy let us in and then 3 more grabbed our bags and put us in a strange old open top "vehicle" and trundled us off into the night to our room.
This place is very strange. It looks like it was once designed to be a "grand resort" with a big pond and landscaped gardens and lots of Asian (Bali) type ornaments and ornate wooden furniture etc.
However, it is now VERY run down and the grass is unkempt and maintenance a thing of the past.
The huge lobby cum dining room is weird, however the staff are great and they help you as much as possible. There are several free internets in the lobby and meals are no problem.
Our room was spacious and the aircon (thankfully) worked albeit noisy. The big king sized bed was nice and comfortable and we managed a good hot shower.
As we had noticed a swarm of mosquitos outside the front of the hotel on arrival we kept the door to our room shut at all times.
The young Thai girl behind the reception desk (who had been there all night!) was most helpful and advised us of the taxi fare into Bangkok and where to shop and how much to pay the driver.
Don't get the airport shuttle, use a taxi as it's much cheaper. About 200 baht from memory.
There are a couple of quaint old cars out the front of the hotel, brightly painted with 4 flat tyres and 13 Coins painted on the side.
Great photos!
When it was time to check out at night to go to the airport, the young Thai boys turned up at our door to carry our bags down to the old bomb of a car and drove us 100 meters around to our taxi waiting at the front..
We are still shaking our heads over this hotel!! Will post a couple of pics of this place soon.
Tip. If going ANYWHERE in Bangkok, carry a card with your destination written in Thai.
